Hello!
I’m Isobel — salt maker, small business owner, and someone who gets very excited about delicious food.
Northern Sea Salt started because I wanted to make something that felt true to Northumberland: its coastline, its character, and its community. Every batch begins with a walk to the sea and ends in my kitchen, where I turn it into pure white, delicious salt. My hope is that Northern Sea Salt celebrates the place I love and brings a little of it to your table.

The Salt Family
I set up Northern Sea Salt as a sole trader but that doesn't mean I work alone. Northern Sea Salt partners with wonderful creators and specialists so that our salt is the best it can be. So when I talk about 'we' and 'us' at Northern Sea Salt it's acknowledging all the wonderful folk who have made Northern Sea Salt what it is.
Special thanks to:
Dr Richard Flint-James; Our Chemistry specialist who designed our filtration process and has been key in ensuring our salt is high quality.
Dr Heather Flint-James; When she's not also being a Chemistry master, Heather is our wonderful Photographer.
Daniel O'Connor; Our in-house Geologist, source of all our Whin Sill knowledge, and carrier of many gallons of water.
Inkwell Illustration; The amazing quality of Northern Sea Salt's logo speaks for itself. Northumberland-based Artist Alex has done a wonderful job of capturing the heart of Northern Sea Salt in her branding work.
Luna Bean; When the sea is your office, every day is bring your dog to work day. Luna our beloved Labrador works hard to ensure we always leave the coast soaked and happy.

Place matters
It matters where your food comes from — and with sea salt, it matters even more. The landscape shapes both the flavour and the form of every crystal. That’s why Northern Sea Salt is collected from a single, carefully chosen stretch of coastline between Craster and Dunstanburgh Castle. The rocky shore here means less sand in the filters, and the waters have a long reputation for cleanliness. Most importantly, this coastline is part of the Whin Sill: a band of ancient volcanic dolerite rich in minerals. It’s this geology dark, rugged, and uniquely Northumbrian that gives Northern Sea Salt its bright, sharp, delicious taste.
